Michigan’s Wetland Wonders

Fall brings about many changes to the environment, especially in Michigan, allowing for a great opportunity to explore the wildlife. Michigan has many Wetland Wonders scattered across the southern portion of the state. These areas offer excellent wildlife viewing, bird watching, paddling, and hiking opportunities. These areas give Michiganders an opportunity to experience nature up close.
The following locations are each important in their own way, and provide many different options to keep the adventurer enthralled:
- Harsens Island at the St. Clair Flats State Wildlife Area, St. Clair County
- Pointe Mouillee State Game Area, Monroe/Wayne County
- Fennville Farm Unit at the Allegan State Game Area, Allegan County
- Fish Point State Wildlife Area, Tuscola County
- Muskegon County Wastewater Facility, Muskegon County
- Nayanquing Point State Wildlife Area, Bay County
- Shiawassee River State Game Area, Saginaw County
The Wetland Wonders are also premier waterfowl hunting areas that have become an ideal migrating ground for waterfowls and many other wetland wildlife species. The DNR’s methods include planting crops to provide an additional food source and preventing flooding by building walls. Even if hunting isn’t your thing, it’s still worth checking out the Michigan Wetland Wonders for an impressive wildlife experience.
